[C320-list] Prospective 320 buyer apology

Adam - You said, "I sail my boat more than 90% of the people on the
list either by days out or by mileage." I'd love to see the empirical data
that supports that claim. Can you please share that with the rest of us?
In addition, I must have missed the survey when you compiled this data.
Thank you! - Allan

Dear Barbara and Bob Uhlman:

I was correctly chastised for my response to you about over analyzing
and just told you to buy the boat and go sailing. Some on the list
thought my comments about sailing over 1000 miles in 51 times out was
bragging.

I was rude and I apologize. What I tried to say--and I ended up saying
it rudely and not well--is that there are really no problems with the
boat. If you read the list long enough you will feel that you need to
buy an expensive new folding prop, a stainless steel prop shaft, new
motor mounts, a different anchor windlass, a Honda generator, a fancy
inverter, a new battery charger, new hatches, new head hoses, etc. My
point is that you DON'T. In eight years I have replaced the battery
charger, the roller furling, and two batteries and the steering
quadrant. That is it for "major" repairs. No fancy prop, no inventers,
nothing fancy.

Yet, in spite of this I sail my boat more than 90% of the people on the
list either by days out or by mileage. What I tried to say, and again I
apologize for the rudeness, is that it is a great boat and the best way
to judge that is to go sailing on one. If you live anywhere near San
Francisco Bay I would be honored to personally apologize and take you
sailing.

Adam

I'm considering buying a 2001 Catalina 320. Can any current or former
Catalina 320 owners provide me advice on items to consider when buying a
2001 Catalina 320?

I am especially interested in issues affecting operating systems
(engine, electrical, head, tanks, etc.), the hull, deck and windows
(hull blisters, window leaks, etc.), and rigging including sails.

Thanks!

Barb and Bob
