Pat,

I see the potential making of a Mainsheet technical article here. Would you be willing to do the research and come up with specific cleaning and lubricant recommendations for the port and hatch seals?

The Lewmar site suggests "silicone grease"....

http://en.lewmar.com/support/index.aspx?link=2&prod=4

I've heard recommended (and admit to using at various times) Vaseline, ArmourAll-style tire shine, red lithium grease, and white grease.

Maybe we could also throw in some pics and directions on how to tension the hinges on the ports so they stay open!!

Thanks...

It is true and besides it will collect all kinds of trash on it. If you want to use lube you can get O'ring lube which will not break down rubber, which the gaskets are probably made of. remember that all O'rings are not rubber and can be NBR, Nitril , Viton, etc and most of these are good in oil. I am a urethane distributor and run in to this type of question all the time.Pat #130At 06:59 AM 10/23/2007, you wrote:>I used to use Vaseline (I know this is a setup :), but a surveyor >told me that over time it will break the gasket down because it is >petroleum based...not sure if this is true or not, but passing it >along for what it's worth...>>Regards,>>Jon Vez>>-------------- Original message -------------->From: sailorlew at aol.com>> >> > Someone also said that the manufacturer recommended coating the > gasket with> > Vaseline.> > lew> >> > -----Original Message-----> > From: jonvez at comcast.net> > To: C320-List> > Sent: Mon, 22 Oct 2007 12:45 pm> > Subject: Re: [C320-list]
