Just out of curiosity, if there is room for expansion in the hot?water tank, why would the remaining water freezing cause damage?

Just a word of caution, if you live in a northern region subjected to hard
freezes you may wish to think twice about using air only to winterize your
water system because an empty hot water tank still holds about a gallon of
water that can cause damage if the water is not removed with a shop vac.

I have used the pink stuff for 13 seasons and actually recover 80% of the
antifreeze for reuse for about 3 seasons and have never had a water system
problem, even when the temperature falls to 20 below some seasons. I always
flush the water tanks by filling not more than 10 gallons each two times in
the spring and then drain and flush the hot water tank two times and do not
have a problem with antifreeze odors.

Given all of the time and money I could spend replacing a hot water tank, an
extra hour spent flushing the tanks in the spring has been a proven method
for me.

Hello-

Does anyone use an air compressor to blow out their water tanks for the
winter? I would appreciate knowing what you use for equipment and details
as to
how it is done. I believe the use of the "pink stuff" over time creates an
unpleasant taste to the water.

By the way, we, just took possession of "Tootsy" on June 15th, hull #1105,
after sailing a c380 for 7 years and could not be happier with the boat in
all
respects.
