[C320-list] sail cleaning

We took the sails off yesterday in preparation for the
long Upstate NY winter. On the main there were stains
on the port side along the luff just below the reefing
cringle. They look like aluminium from lying along the
boom when reefed. The usual sail cleaniers and
detergents won't touch them. Any suggestions? Is there
