Robert---thanks for your comments.  The Australian  Maxwell representative is most unenthusiastic about putting a 8 mm chain on a winch rated for 6mm. I mentioned your experience and suggested I would see if anyone else commented.
   I notice in the Whitworth catalogue that they offer a short link chain for windlass gypsys and also an L grade short link chain "made from the highest quality tensile steel"with each link indivdually tested.     Have you any Idea if your chain is short link my inclination at present is to order the thing accepting responsibility and trying a short length of 8mm to see how it fits with a fall back position of high tensile 6mm.   Have you anchored in 30 knots plus with your set up.
