Dick,

Thanks,

I am starting to think that it may be in the exhuast elbow since its near the age of the one that it replaced. When I had?a problem 6 years ago it was related to the elbow with the exhuast side of the elbow? almost blocked off. In looking at my original elbow, that was replaced, the water inlet shows some blockage too. This time the water side may be the most restricted and limiting the flow causing the muffler not to fill up fast as normal.Thereby requiring?running the engine longer than I am willing to allow (until I know whats going on) to fo fill the mufler to the requred level for the exhuast to dicharge it.

I will let the group know what it was.

By the way, be happy you have a Yanmar, The elbow on the Perkins cost me around $350.00 6 years ago.

Anyone have a source for perkins parts?

Jim

In addition the Yanmar manual recommends to change the Exhaust bypass elbow.
This is Yanmar part # 12827013600 and costs about $150.00

Cheers,

Our Yanmar overheated while motoring near Catalina a few years back.
We sailed to the mooring (at about 2 kts, there was little wind).
Another C320 owner on a nearby mooring told me that the guy on the
adjacent mooring might be of help - he was a retired Yanmar mechanic.

The guy showed up 30 minutes later, freshly showered, in a clean shirt
and ready for dinner with his friends. He found a blockage in the
vented loop line that runs from the engine, to the vent in the port
locker, and back to the exhaust elbow. The blockage was caused by a
buildup of salt crystals. He cleared the blockage by momentarily
reversing the hose connections at the engine. He held the reversed
connections to the engine by hand, not by tightening the clamps. The
"backwards" flow of water blew out the buildup. It also blew a cloud
of soot that landed on his clean, white shirt.

The next morning I rowed over to his boat to leave a bottle of red, but
he was already gone. We never saw him again. Who was that masked man?

So, check the vented loop line. The buildup would be at a low point in
the line, not at the vent itself. And, wear an old shirt.
