[C320-list] Jumpstart power booster for engine starting

As the owners of boat that has previously had some major electical/start
issues I can tell you with confidence that they work great -but that
assumes you're starter's ok, your wiring is ok, etc.. Also, they're only
good for a few starts unless recharged. We keep one on the boat all
summer.

The gear box is a hureth.?? I would disconnect at the gear box and test
it at the gear box then see how the cable move as well.? I replaced my
cable a couple of years ago when it got stiff and hard to shift.?

You also my want to replace the gear box fluid, if you have not already
done so.

Subject: [C320-list] Forward to Reverse Shift Problem

Does anyone have difficulty shifting from forward to reverse and
vice-versa? We have hull 32 with the Perkins engine. Not sure who
made
the trans. I have found that if I am in forward by moving the shift
lever
backwards about 10 mm gets me to neutral at 800 rpm. Its then takes a
huge
amount of force on the shift lever to get me from this neutral position
to
the reverse gear. Retuning to forward from reverse is similar but does
not
need so much force on the lever.

I did inspect the shift cable that comes to the transmission from the
lever. This seems to be moving freely so I do not think the cable is
the
cause. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.

A few weeks ago I was coming into dock and the bolt that secures the
shift
lever sheered because the shift is so stiff. I was left with the lever
in
my hand. Luckily it failed in neutral and I was able to coast in.
Needless to say I want to get this fixed before it fails when I am out
on the water.

Best regards

Bryan

Warren,
Is it true (as I have heard) that with your update to a six bladed
oscillating prop you have the only 320 planing hull on the bay, but your
SOG looks similiar to a sine wave??? Just asking. Ken #219

No, this is a symmetrical spinnaker designed to be used with a spinnaker
pole. Socks or snuffers are usually (always?) for use with asymmetrical
spinnakers. Mike

Gary,

For what it's worth, my port list seems to have been significantly
reduced
and/or disappeared since I replaced the two 4D batteries with AGMs
(slightly
heavier) and added a group 27 starting battery just fwd on the two 4Ds.
Like
Orlando says, it was never really an issue anyway, although it seems
that I
actually got slightly higher speed on a port tack when I had the list.
Like
having extra weight on the port rail perhaps?

You're traveling companions don't know what they're talking about...yes,
the
boat has a port list but not a big deal....it doesn't effect performance
at
all....it's a list, nothing else...

Don't worry about, enjoy your boat!

I would get other friends... :)

I think I have seen several tongue-in-cheek comments here in the past
about
the port list on the 320. But having just come back from a two week

something
seriously wrong with my boat. With the two 4D batteries, holding tank,
fuel
tank, and water tank all on the starboard side, can someone re-explain
the
port list?

Hi

Is there a chain windlass that could be used to replace the existing
windlass.
I know there is a conversion kit for the current windlass just wanted
to know if there
is a plug and play replacement that could be used without having to go
through the
upgrade process.

Thank You
Joe

Installing the upgrade is simpler than installing a new one. No
electrical connections and major bolts etc.

I have a 2 year old Doyle APC Asymmetrical Spinnaker with Dousing Sock
for
sale. In perfect condition, used only 4 times. Red, White and blue
colors.
Will include (2) 130' blue Dacron sheets that are like new. Can also
include
two Rostand turning blocks that price out new at $90 each.
See the sail here;
http://www.doylesails.com/sails-cruising-coastal-spin-apc.htm
Great sail to keep you from having to run the engine on light air days.
No
pole required to sail it. Will easily sail deep downwind, broad reach
and
beam reach so it is multi purpose. Fits perfect under port Settee in
main
cabin.
Cost new $2500, with sheets and two blocks $2800 total. Will sell for
$1400
plus shipping.

Hi All,
?
>From discussions here and with others, adding a dedicated starting
battery seems to make sense and is something I plan to do as a mid-term
project. Having a way of starting the engine that is isolated from other
current draws, together with the differing current (and charging)
requirements for engine starting and hotel loads both point to the need
for a separate starting battery. In the short term, however, I was
thinking of carrying one of the ?power booster? batteries sometimes used
to jumpstart cars. They are relatively cheap, lightweight, often have
their own built in trickle charger and seem like a reasonable way to
address the issue of inadvertently drained house batteries. Has anyone
used one of these to start their C320 (Yanmar) engine?
?
