Martin

I disconnected everything.?? Had?the system evaced?and refill by a professional (recommended) .? I did learn that A/B uses special?fittings on the?compressor and lines that are designed to spring shut after you separate them to keep from losing all?the freon. ?Also found out that teh springs are pretty much worn out on the older units and let all the gas escape.? Thus way I had to have the system evacuated and refilled same process as in a car AC system.?

Also it is really really important to know what type of refrigerant?used in your system.? Just like a car AC system?the A/B system has used a couple of different types over the years and you can not mix them.????Be sure to save labels/spec plates ?that come off base or compressor it may list what type of freon to use.??

There are lots of outfits around Annapolis that will do the refill so I didn't?have any problems getting the system refilled.?

Also be sure to clean up all wire ends and other electrical connections.???

The great thing about making a plastic base it that it will never rust again and since mine is located in an area that gets some moisture it has made a big difference.

Thanks Tony. Could you do this without disconnecting the fittings or did you disconnect and then have to refill the coolant (freon?)??
