Our boat is Ruthsm, Hull #74 out of Marina del Rey. We have just returned from our second trip this year to Cat Harbor. Have picked up moorings there and Avalon and have anchored in the past in our Olsen 25. Anchoring is free, and moorings for our boat this week were $28 per night. We annually cruise up to Oxnard/Ventura and Santa Cruz Island.
For the Fortress you need 50 ft of chain and 250 ft. of line. The Fortress will waterplane if not weighted sufficiently. (once set it holds like a ton of bricks)
We have a 30# CQR with 50 ft of chain and 350 ft of 1/2" line (Occasionally you will need 6-7 times the depth in your anchor road) but usually we use 4-5 times the depth. We have never had any difficulty with our anchor holding us. The general rule at Santa Cruz is if other boats are using one hook, we use one. Occasionally we have had to use a second anchor in Coches Prietos and Fry's. We often go to Prisoner's as well.
If you want to talk further, you can call me at 818 892-9493, Sam Wagner.

Subject: [C320-list] Anchor recommendations
We're planning our first trip to Catalina Island off LA in our 320. We have a 22 lb danforth with 50 feet of chain and 250 of 3/8 inch nylon rode. We also have an 11# aluminum Fortress anchor with 150' of nylon rode as a secondary. We'd eventually like to explore the other channel islands and I'm looking for some opinions on anchors and tips for cruising catalina from anyone who has cruised in this area.
ThanksCrosby Roper, VMD
