Hi Bill,
You can re-calibrate your depth sounder to reflect true water depth. Because the transducer is mounted on the hull, There is an error of several feet which gives the appearance of having more water depth than you really do if it has not been corrected. On a nice sunny day, anchor in about 5 feet of water, get your trunks on and go over the side to confirm water depth against your height. Then, go to setup mode on your depth sounder and reset the water depth to what you observed.
This will give a precise depth reading, and gives a lot of peace of mind when navigating in shallow water where the bottom is granite.Gene Musante 617-755-0680 gmusante at msn.com
