Also, you can install a car with a 'loop' and use it, along with a boom vang with a long sheet for a boom preventer....

Attach one end of the vang to the bottom of the boom, attach the part of the vang where you have becket, take it all the way back to the cockpit and viola, an excellent preventer that you can handle from the security of the cockpit...

I've installed a cleat on each of mine and use it for my docking spring  
line.
Almost makes up for our boats not having a midship cleat.
