No wonder I can never win a race. Besides the port list now I find out the
boat is rigged.

Subject: Re: [C320-list] Standing Rigging

We replaced the standing and running rigging last January, when the
boat was a bit over 12 years old. I don't think I needed to, but I did
it anyway. The mast was never taken down before.

I did this in part because I was crewing on a 12 year old Cal 29 off
Marina Del Rey when the mast fell over in less than 12 knots of wind.
It wakes you up to hear a big bang, look over your shoulder and see a
mast hopping across the deck towards you. Also, I was the guy who
asked Gerry Douglas when to replace the rigging, while on a 320 group
tour of the Catalina plant in Woodland Hills a few years ago - he said
8 years.

The cost, including hauling, washing, bottom painting, waxing the
sides, the standing rigging, running rigging, the rigger, a replacement
furler unit for the Shaeffer 2000 furler (it was jammed), re-bedding
the shroud-thru-the-deck areas (there were big voids there), tuning the
rig, a daily charge for keeping the mast in the yard, and a few minor
things, was about $5500. The standing rigging itself (316 stainless)
was about $1250.
