Our 1995 model #182 has only 3 screws holding down the aqua lift muffler? The aft port corner has no hole and no screw. Is that normal?

Should I try to add a screw to that corner by drilling a hole and self threading with the screw?

I may have some leaking from that corner, although the other 3 screws were not very tight and I tightened them today but did not run the engine afterwards.

Our Perkins does not seem to have an exhaust elbow like those described in recent e-mails? The closest thing to it is a 9 inch pipe with a 3" bulb in the center where a 60 degree downward curve exists coming off the aft end of the engine, labeled "exhaust outlet" in the Perkins manual, which clamps to the reinforced hose before the muffler.

Is that the elbow that should be removed from the back of the engine and checked for carbon build up & deterioration?

Our Perkins engine has 570 hours.

Thanks, Rollie Punta Gorda, FL
