The exhaust elbow on my 94 Perkins is bolted to the exhaust manifold. If you look at the rear of the heat exchanger you will see a rubber fitting just like the one in the front. . It has a 3/4 inch elbow that comes off it and clamps to the exhaust elbow.
I had to change my exhaust elbow out about 4 years ago. Eng only had about 680 hours. Elbow rusted through and was leaking water. When I removed it I found carbon build up and alot of rust build up as well.

Subject: [C320-list] 1995 C320 Aqua Lift Muffler & Elbow
ur 1995 model #182 has only 3 screws holding down the aqua lift muffler? The
ft port corner has no hole and no screw. Is that normal?
Should I try to add a screw to that corner by drilling a hole and self threading
ith the screw?
I may have some leaking from that corner, although the other 3 screws were not
ery tight and I tightened them today but did not run the engine afterwards.
ur Perkins does not seem to have an exhaust elbow like those described in
ecent e-mails? The closest thing to it is a 9 inch pipe with a 3" bulb in the
enter where a 60 degree downward curve exists coming off the aft end of the
ngine, labeled "exhaust outlet" in the Perkins manual, which clamps to the
einforced hose before the muffler.
Is that the elbow that should be removed from the back of the engine and checked
or carbon build up & deterioration?
Our Perkins engine has 570 hours.
