[C320-list] Florida Keys

Don't really have atrip planned - but I live/work in Key West and Stargazer is docked at Key West City marina in Garrison Bight.

Where are you planning on keeping the boat?  My advise would be the Garrison Bight (City of Key West) mooring field since you will be leaving the boat.  Very reasonable (I think it is currently $280 per month which includes dinghy dockage, a parking space and use of (new) shower facility which is now adjacent to dinghy dock.

Dry Tortugas is a long run - about 60+ nautical.  You should plan 2 days out and at least 2 days back (easterly winds are the prevailing here).  You would want to use the Marquesas Keys as your overnight coming and going (about 25 miles from Key West).  Anchorage at Ft. Jefferson is now well protected (i.e. minimal current due to shoaling).  You should check with the Park Service re grey water (holding tank must be closed to discharge and they may have you put dye in it as well).  Remember, there are no sdrvices (or water hence the "Dry" of Dry Tortugas) out there.  Plan on getting stuck if weather turns, also, although by May the cold fronts are less of an issue.  Bring bug screens - Mosquito Control. does not go beyond Key West.

Regards,

Don Dixon

Subject: [C320-list] Florida Keys

Just wondering if anyone has a trip planned to the Florida Keys this
spring/summer. I plan to take Nauti Clew to Key West the last week of April
until May 7th.  Drive home to central florida for 2 weeks and return  to Key
West with a week trip to the Dry Tortugas before sailing her back to
Melbourne, Florida by the first week in June. Also, has anyone visited the
Dry Tortugas? Any info on anchoring or mooring there. What about waste water
dumping.
Thanks
Michael
