Hey,

Does anyone know if the stovetop can be lifted up to clean underneath? It
looks like it could but I can not seem to release the latch. Perhaps Adam
Weiner knows since he does a lot of cooking on the boat. Any help would be
appreciated.

Pat:

Bear had her batteries upgraded last year - Trojan AGM Grp 27 start battery
under the port settee and 4 Trojan AGM 6Vs in series/parallel on the
starboard side yielding 440 AH of house power. This year she was given
(special mention to Dick Walker - 687 WindWalker) a Balmar 60-100-SR-LG dual
foot alternator and the Balmar MC-612-H regulator/w harness. This is a
drop-in which my mech agreed would work fine without a belt/pulley upgrade.

In related work done at the same time this year the original charger was
removed as it had no program for AGM batteries; replaced by a Magnum MS2012
charger/inverter. We also installed (all Magnum) a ME-BMK battery monitor,
ME-RC remote system controller and a ME-SBC smart battery combiner. When
charging is done regardless of source, the charge is sent to the house bank.
The battery combiner, located with the start battery, monitors the state of
charge of the house bank and when that bank is not drawing full amps from
the charge source directs excess charge capacity to the start battery.
Battery characteristics needed by the shore charger are input thru the
controller, and it also supplies battery state information readout.

The install was not without surprise; the greatest being (and I am to blame
for not reading the available fine print prior to purchase) that the
distance from the inverter/charger to the houise bank was sufficiently great
that the connection required 4/0 wire which was not available locally. This
resulted in a US internet purchase from Florida for the correct size marine
cable and an additional 500$ not budgeted for.

I just had the same leak problem a couple of months back. I changed the
copper washer on the bleed screw on top of the secondary fuel filter and
it solved the problem.

Yes, it lifts up from the front edge. Once you get the front edge up an
inch or so, pull it towards yourself about an inch. Then it will lift up
the rest of the way.

There is a latch/lock on each side that I think you can release by slipping
a butter knife between the stovetop and the latch. Can't remember exactly.

Yesterday we were pulling into the Marina Just passing the Gas Dock
The First Mate is Behind the Wheel and She announces the Boat
is not responding to the throttle..... Good Catch, but Terrible timing
I run Below rip off the Enging cover and try shifting the transmission
Manually but still not working.... We are riding the current down the
narrow channel into the Marina into the wind. I quickly run forward drop
the anchor and let out abot 15 feet of chain.... we are still drifting
and finally the anchor grabs... 15 minutes later Sea Town is on the seen and
we
are being escorted to our slip What a way to end a prefect day of
Sailing....

After some trouble shooting back at the slip I discover the Prop Shaft has
fallen out of the coupler.
Over the winter I replaced the Seal on my Dripless shaft Seal.
Which required that I remove the shaft from the coupler.
I put it all back together Key in place and set the 2 bolts.
I wired the 2 bolts together, but yesterday it all came apart and the
2 bolts were finger
tight. The Wire was still running through the bolt heads and not broken, but
somehow they still backed out from the coupler. I obviously screwed
something up in the way I wired the 2 bolts
together anyone know the procedure for properly wiring the 2 bolts together

Thanks
Joe

Dave, Michael

I have a Balmar 100A alternator and have been fighting belt burn-out since I
purchased the boat. I have had belts burn out in as little 40 hours. I
tried all of the recommended belts: gates.. etc and ended up with a NAPA
heavy duty (truck) belt - they seem to last the longest but the real key to
increased belt life was to reduce the alternator output to about 66%. That
drastically reduced the failure rate. I have fine tuned the pulley
alignment and I am pretty sure that it is not the issue. I talked to a
Gates tech rep and he said that the Balmar deep V pulley might be the cause.
He said that it is not possible to design a pulley for two belt sizes. Its
the only thing left on the list. BTW you will find pages and pages about
Balmar belt burn-out on the web.
