All good suggestions but fyi...I sailed #112 in the Pacific for 12 years and never had a problem with the whisker pole stored on the stanchions..

We raced every year from marina del rey to san diego and also from oxnard to marina del rey along with channel crossings from mdr to catalina island and back...some of the trips we had water coming over the starboard bow right on the pole and again, no problems....

Tim, are you installing a pole for use with a spinnaker or merely as a means
to pole-out a jib for runs and broad reach? If the latter,
for what it's worth, I didn't bother with a slide and car on the mast. I
just installed a pad eye on the front of the mast at a height determined by
observing the jib while sailing. My pole is a two part 10' pole extendable
to about 18'. I would guess the most I've ever extended it is about 15+/-
feet with my 150% genoa. I store the pole on the stations with the devices
as sold by Forespar.

I'm 68 and have no trouble setting and retrieving the pole here on the
Chesapeake. If, however, you sail on blue water, then I would advise
stowing the pole on the mast with a slide and car.

Spring project time in NorthEast and putting on a whisker pole. So, I
checked the site not much out there. Anyone have photos of installations?
Really interested in two specific items.
1. the blocks and line used to move the cars up and down the mast assuming
it is a verticle mast installation.
2. how best to attach track to mast, drill and tap or self tapping screws?

Thanks to those who responded earlier on the interior varnish, ordered and
received. Just need the temps to get up a bit more here.
