[C320-list] Pedestal guard & cables

Mike - I have the C80, depth, speed, wind, autopilot, and RAM mic going down
the 1-inch tubes. Getting all those down the tubes will not be the easiest
boat project you take on but they all will go. For the RAM mic, you would
need to cut the plug, run the cable down the tube, then reconnect the plug.
If you are not running a RAM mic now, I would suggest at least running the
messenger line now as this is an almost must-have future upgrade (see the
next Mainsheet for more on this). Also, you will need to use both tubes.
On Sea Shadow, the starboard side tube housed only the autopilot cable so
there was no outlet for other cables running down that tube to come into the
box in the aft cabin. I had to move the pedestal guard enough to be able to
drill out the hole for more cables to pass through. Also, the port side
tube at the deck level was filled with caulk. I had to dig this out with
rubber tipped mechanics picks so as to be able to pass one more wire down
that tube. But as careful as I was with the picks, I still managed to
damage all of those cable and wound up having to re-splice them.

At the end of the day, working in the pedestal is not for the faint-of-heart
but it all can be done.

Subject: [C320-list] Pedestal guard & cables

I'm looking into upgrading to a Raymarine C80 and adding a ST60 wind gauge
along with the speed, depth, and autopilot already there. The installer said
that I may run into a problem with space for the cables in the pedestal
guard and that I may need to change to a 1 1/4" pedestal guard. Has anyone
else come across this issue?
