Just to let everyone know that I did buy a sail cover from
catalinaowners.com. While they have a standard pattern version, for the
C320, at a lower price (based on, I think, the 2001 specifications,) we went
with a custom version.
We got a price from a local canvas shop of $550. The SailRite store in
Annapolis suggested I might pay as much as $700-$1,200 in the Bay area. In
the end I paid $400 for the sail cover the materials for which are probably
less than $150. I paid extra for Tanara thread and twist locks vs. Velcro.
No sales tax.
For a custom fit, they send you a form with about 15 measurements to take. I
had to add the location of the Dutchman lines and the location of the vang
and main sheets. I had questions that were very professionally handled by
their representative on the phone.
Once the measurements were received, production was quick. We are very happy
with the result. The workmanship seems first class. The only setback was
that in my zeal to follow their instructions to the letter, I failed to
account for a pole ring on the front of the mast. The resulting fit is a tad
tight around the ring.
As a follow-up, they sent me a survey form to return. I have to say that
they are very service oriented and willing to go the extra mile to deliver a
satisfactory product. In short, I would recommend this product.
