[C320-list] Hot Water Heater Cold Water Line - Check Valve

My concern now is that there is a Whale check valve in there now and has been for 10 years. It now
blows out even though I've replaced the Whale quick connect fittings.
But the next answer here may be the fix.
Thanks.

Paul,
It is my understanding (I am starting to understand this boat, a little anyway) that a cold water line feeds the hot water heater. Are you asking if there is some type of valve that prevents the hot water from flowing back into the cold water line that feeds it?
If this is the case, wouldn't the water pressure from the water in the water line prevent that? I can't see water from the hot water tank finding its way back to water tank as it too has water in it and has pressure....
What is the concern?
Or am I not getting it? (which may be why no one replied?)
Not being crass.

A few days ago, I put out a question about the Whale Quick Connect fitting and a back flow preventor
on the cold water line right next to the hot water heater. I didn't get any answer. So lets try this:
Does the cold water line require a "check valve"? Will a check valve prevent the hot water from flowing
back into the cold water line? Does anyone know what people use for a check valve, if any, in the cold water
line? Check valve = back flow preventor.
I'm going out to some of my local boat supply stores tomorrow to check on plumbing supplies.
Thanks,
Paul
