[C320-list] Hot Water Heater Cold Water Line - Check Valve

Dave,

Couple things.

If you look at the West Marine catalog on page 348, they show a "non-return valve" just
before the hot water heater, on the cold water side. That is the way mine is designed in 1999.
Need it or not, it is designed that way.

Coming off the cold water side of the hot water heater I have a three inch hose connected with hose clamps
on each end.. Then an adapter-female 1/2" quick connect, followed by a white three inch ~ Whale check valve that goes into a quick connect equal tee. The check valve is smooth just like the blue and red tubs. The end stuck into the adapter simply would not hold, it would blow out of the quick connect and of course water goes all over the place. (If you didn't know this was a check valve, it would just look like a piece of white
tubing, you actually have to look inside to see it).  I don't know what size this check valve is, either 15MM
or 1/2 inch. But the newest Whale white check valve that I have held in my hand, from page 352 is 1/2, not
15 MM and not nearly long enough to work. So that is why I went with the brass one.

I was out all weekend and the new connection using the in-line non-return valve made of brass held the entire
time.  See West Marine catalog page 348. Hopefully, it is fixed this time. If it fails again, I may just get some blue tubing and try it without a check valve (non-return).

Paul:

I have #150 and have taken almost all Whale fittings off at one time or
another and am not aware of any "Check valve".  I see no need for one, as
the pressure pump is on the cold water side of the hot water tank.

When you say, "It now blows out even though I've replaced the Whale quick
connect fittings."  I am not sure I understand what you are  saying.  Can
you provide a more detailed description of what you experience?
