[C320-list] Dutchman Flaking System

That is key. We snug the topping lift and "run up the clothesline" after we're headed straight into the wind.

Also if the weather isn't too hairy, we allow a few feet of play in the mainsheet so that the boom/sail can stay dead downwind while dropping the main. It keeps the boom under the sail a little better.

We don't do this when the winds are over 30kts or in rough seas though.

On my setup (C270) I found what made it work was loosening the Dutchman
lines fully to allow sail shape while sailing, and then tightening them
before dropping sail. As long as I didn't forget to tighten them, it was a
smooth as a baby's bottom.

Happy Sailing!

You have discovered the key to making the system work-tight lines. I've had

the system on two boats now and it works great if the topping lift and guide

lines are tight.
