Wow, thanks very much for the quick responses.  Really helpful answers from all of you.

David - I grew up near the Chesapeake, but never sailed it - only small motor boats - so your advice is taken to heart.

Jim - I love that 'fat ass' on this boat, it is one of the deciding factors for me - both in looks and functionality as a swim platform.

>From these comments, it sounds like the 320 is exactly what I am looking for.  I read that blue water article posted here about the person who sailed to the BVI (i think), and that scared me a little about the trip down, but I figure for my needs (90% solo day sails with the family out on occasion... or perhaps more after they see how the boat handles), this boat is just right once I can get it down to Cayman.
