Interesting Bruce. I was thinking about doing the same thing. I would say 
you would definitely need a backing plate. That is if you are placing it 
between the front hatch and the anchor locker. Ronstan make a good one. Mine 
is to secure a kicker for my pole on Genoa. Lets know how you go. Peter
