You could easily use a drill coller to control the drilling depth. Lowes has those also.  

If using the upper jib tracks, careful the pole doesn't snag a stancion top or damage lifelines.

Thanks to everyone for their responses.  I am off to Lowe's to by the special security drivers.  As to the whisker pole set up, I know that the pole is supposed to be level once deployed, but I am reticent to do it 'the right way' and try to drill into the mast only by the wall thickness.  I'll try 'the other way' using a ring on the upper genoa track in conjunction with a preventer / fore guy.  Updates to follow.  Alan  Hull 67 Holland MI
