[C320-list] cutlass bearing replacement

Chris - The instructions that come with the tool are very clear! But the
old bearing pushes out from fore to aft, the new one goes in aft to forward.
That's why the prop needs to come off so the bearing can slide over the
shaft and out. - Allan

So, now, I've probably alienated the yard by questioning their methods and
ability to change a cutlass bearing. If this is left to me to figure out,
the feathering prop is already pulled. I ordered cutlass bearings from
Catalina direct. I bought two of them. As I recall, these were a straight
brass sleeve with rubber on the inside. If I get the association tools, do
I remove the old bearing from the strut and slide it toward the prop end, or
does it go the other way?

Chris,

This doesn't sound right at all--sorry it's after the fact. I replaced mine
two seasons ago using the Association's tools and it took me and a friend
about 2 hours--most of which was for removing the prop. No need to remove
the shaft and definitely no need to drop the rudder--

I'm having a bottom job done on hull #500, 1998 model. The cutlass bearing
is being replaced at the same time. The yard is saying (after the fact)
that they've had to put six hours into pulling the shaft, they now have that
done, but they think that they might need to pull the rudder to get the
shaft out of the strut. Does this sound right?
