[C320-list] Water heater Leak...

 Don't know if you are somewhere that gets cold winters but I had a water heater freeze and split on a Beneteau I used to own.  The guys I bought it from didn't drain it over the winter. I couldn't find the leak until I removed the heater and the ss box filled w/ insulation that surrounds the actual tank. It looked like someone had split it with an ax.

Thanks Jack,

I did search through the archives and saw your posts when you went through
this. I did check all the hoses and fittings and they were fine. The leak
appears as a weeping under the tank until I pressurize it, then it is more
of a steady run, so I do believe it's the tank itself. I keep saying to
myself that 12 years is a *reasonable* life for my tank when I ordered the
new one :)

Jon,

Have you checked the hot water outlet line at the heater?  The threaded
portion of the fitting cracked on our heater and was difficult to detect. I
thought I would back the fitting out and re-wrap it with Teflon tape and it
snapped off in my hand when I went to disconnect the line.  Something you
may want to check if you haven't already done so.

I had to do that this spring.  Perhaps the easiest task I've had to do.  Got
the replacement from Defender - they had 20+ (!) units on the shelf at the
time.  The basic outline was:

1. Disconnect shore power.
2. Remove the drawers and face frame.
3. Disconnect the tubing on the front of the heater.
4. Disconnect the wiring.
5. Remove 4 screws (2 on each end) holding the heater in-place.  (A little
stretch to reach the 2 screws on the back.)
6. Slide the heater forward and disconnect the 2 hoses on the back of the
heater.
7. Slide the heater out.

..and slide the new one in and reverse the process.  Turned out much easier
than I expected.
