If you don't have one already, be sure and add one of the spring props to
keep the top up while you rummage. I did and it works great. The spring
snaps into the locked position at full open and a gentle push lets it close.
I told Gerry it should be standard equipment like on more expensive boats,

We, too, keep charts under the port settee cushions and I ALMOST built 
dividers for the nav station. I did  take measurements, which I think I just

tossed out this fall, realizing I'd never get around to building dividers. 
(My excuse: we're now in a condo and I no longer have a home workshop.) I 
was thinking of bins, too.

I'd be very interested in what you come up with.
