For those of you that live in Southern California, I recently got an outstanding guide book on Catalina Island. It provides information on every anchorage around the island. It includes location by longitude & latitude, description of the area, chart images, sea-level photo's, and color satellite images for each spot. It also lists suggested anchoring methods for each location along with specific tips for each spot as well. The book is spiral bound on heavy stock paper so it can easily be used from the cockpit. There is also a section on general anchoring technique as well. The book was put together by Marc Hughston of Santana Sailing and Orange Coast College School of Seamanship. I believe it's now used for their "Anchoring at Catalina" class and trip.

The idea behind the book is that there are many great spots at Catalina -a mooring is not necessary. As you all know, moorings fill up fast in the summer. I've been to Catalina many times yet this book has expanded my knowledge of the island tremendously.

Note: I have no financial interest in this book. I got it through the following site: http://www.santanasailing.com/ for approx. $28.

Thanks,

Mike P.
