What we do is have shorter people put one or two of the square throwable cushions behind their back and brace their feet on the opposing bench. That's pretty comfortable and  effectively gives them about 4 inches of extra leg reach.  

We just loop the throwable's strap over the high side winch to keep them in place.

 I do not have  a cockpit table and like the openness of the cockpit.  But when the boat is healed over, the windward (uphill) passengers don't have a convenient way to brace themselves. Does anyone know of a way to install a foot brace of some kind along the center of the cockpit floor from the binnacle to the companionway?
