Joe, I, too, was perplexed by the color of my engine oil. I posed the
question in some forum, I can't remember where, and the reply was that the
nature of diesel engines is that they produce a lot of "color." I learned
not to be bothered by it. However, for peace of mind, have a sample of your
oil analyzed. I understand this doesn't cost much and the information can
be very useful. I'd wait until you have 20 or 30 hours on it. I haven't
done this; but, it's on my bucket list.
I change oil in July and again in the fall layup, or whenever I've run 50
hours.

Subject: [C320-list] Engine Oil
I changed my engine oil and oil filter last October when I winterized
the boat. I checked the oil after I started the engine recently and
the oil was a very deep colored black, not the look of new oil. Is
this normal after a 6 month winter layover? Should I change it again?
Also, is it worth it to purchase an impeller puller? Does it work well?
Thank you for your thoughts.
Joe
