Interesting...all my research says to change the oil/filter in the fall,
that way clean oil is sitting in the engine all winter. Can't see how it
can "build up acid" when not being used.

Joe,
My diesel class said to always change your layover oil and filter at the
beginning of the season. It supposedly builds up acid while laying over. What
I don't do is change the filter at the end of the season, just the oil,
can't see the oil laying in the filter causing any problem. Come spring I
change both. I don't have an impeller puller and never found one to be
necessary.

Subject: [C320-list] Engine Oil
I changed my engine oil and oil filter last October when I winterized
the boat. I checked the oil after I started the engine recently and
the oil was a very deep colored black, not the look of new oil. Is
this normal after a 6 month winter layover? Should I change it again?
Also, is it worth it to purchase an impeller puller? Does it work well?
Thank you for your thoughts.
Joe
