If you wrap you packing around the shaft four times (as shown) you will have
no problem in cutting and abtaining three good lengths to use.

The stuff that I got from west was a white 3/16 ptfe flax material.  It was very 
waxy and difficult to cut smoothly.  These pictures are very helpful and I may 
redo mine based on them, but I had no problems getting a smooth, consistent 
drip.  Also,  I got no heat buildup after an hour of running time.  This article 
is much appreciated.

I just used it last weekend.  Probably the first time it was changed on hull 
00.  Hard to get out the old but the new went in easily.  Didn't know where to 
ind the Gore material around here.

Anyone have experience with the putty like teflon packing material sold by West 
arine and others. Seems like an easy way to go-almost too easy.
