Irv,
My boatyard is also recommending replacement. If they change the seals, they often find a scored shaft. Then you are in for another expensive part, a delay while they order and receive the part, and a very big labor bill. You could easily end up with a rebuilt pump costing nearly the same as new. To just pull the pump and replace with a new one is a minimal labor charge.
Now I'm on the quest to find a reasonably priced new pump.
