Black smoke could also be a oil problem. I believe if the smoke while or Blue it is fuel. You might also try Google, something might come up.  JOHN  Holokai 2

We are experiencing black exhaust smoke, and a loss of high revs with our 3YM 30 
Yamaha motor.
We have only done about 250 hours, the motor is well maintained, boat is only 4 
years. 
Any suggestions of the cause and remedy.
