[C320-list] Sailboat Insurance

I have my car and boat insurance with Allstate and I believe that I am
paying just over $300/year for the boat. I had another insurance agent look
at it to verify that there were not any "holes" in it and he thought it was
great. I am restricted to 100 miles offshore. That's it. I have full
replacement value as BoatUS covers.

Hello Greg:

I bought our 320 (hull 718) several years ago. Before that
I owned a C30. In both instances the Power Squadrons
insurance rates were the best and I have an agreed upon
replacement cost if the boat is lost or damaged beyond
repair. I believe they are the best option because they
know boats and if you are a member of the Power Squadrons
with some education certificates it lowers the premium
because you represent an educated boater. The other
insurance companies.... Amica for example, which I have for
car and home, was way out of line with their quote by $
1,000 per year. If the underwriters do not really
understand the Marine environment they tend to guess about
the probabilities of an uneducated boat owner doing stupid
things with their boat, which they often do, and which you
pay for in premiums.
