Follow up to yesterday......the issue that was reported was diesel tank
delamination and corrosion with the failure mode being particles that clog
the fuel system. The delamination is a Ford truck problem - it's well
documented, or at least the complaints are. The corrosion is reported as
an issue with a variety of steel storage tanks. Low sulfur fuel is
identified as the cause since it is corrosive. The CARB road diesel does
not require ethanol, but there is a variance that allows refineries with
limited capability to produce the lower aromatic fuel to using unspecified
alternative blends to produce fuel that will comply with the CARB emission
specifications. The corrosion is reported to be on aluminum tanks as well
as steel tanks. Plastic is reported to be a solution. So far, I have
found no complaints or mention of the issue with respect to Marine
applications. YMMV, so I offer my apology for the weak information. I'm
still investigating. Pat, 801
