[C320-list] Accent Tape - Suggestions

Karl,

I did that task 1.5 years ago after moving our boat from San Diego to Seattle. I did all of the work from a ladder as it seemed safer than from above on the decks about 10 feet off of the ground. We used a hair dryer to remove the old tape and then buffed out the area. We then waxed the hull before applying the new replacement tape stripes. I purchased the replacement tape directly from Catalina. When applying the new tape, I found that having just a few "blue painters tape marks" on the hull allowed me to apply the new "stripe tape pair" in a very straight line along the hull. I recallapplying the tape in 5 to 8 foot segments to get a smooth straight line. Just a few marks was all I needed to maintain a straight line application. Be careful not to stretch the new tape too much when applying and also be careful when using a razor blade the cleanly trim the edges of the new tape. The gel coat is soft and prone to scoring from a sharp razor blade.

Not too hard of a project, but the new stripe tape seemed expensive and just like a paint job, the finished work is only as good as the preparation.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

Dave
