You will enjoy the change to the Sea Era.  It's a signifigant
improvement over the OEM install.  As to the plumbing change, I'm not
sure it necessary.  If you tie into the original raw water source
point, the raw water strainer can be installed on the head side of the
bulkhead, and it's both easy to access and visible for inspection.

The problem with either approach is the use of raw water to feed the
head.   A change to fresh water is advised and is worth your
consideration.  The approach Len suggests is a standard solution and
several owners have used that configuration to provide the fresh
water.
