[C320-list] Spinnaker Hardware

We have the Catalina assym. spinn. that came with the boat and only recently had
great success flying it.  We had more experienced assym sailors on board who
helped us.  The DirectTV blimp which had been in the area came by and hovered
for about 5 minutes.  That's our 5 minutes of fame if you ever see a sailboat
with a blue/white assym. spinn flying.

We went to the Miami boat show today and were very impressed with the new Selden
assym. roller furling spinn.  The various parts came to about $1200.  With the
other neat toys we saw today, we will have to evaluate it.

Subject: Re: [C320-list] Spinnaker Hardware

Jason,

I have a North asymmetrical spinnaker that came with a ATN sock and tacker.

1.  No bowsprit.  I'm using a turning block off of my anchor roller bail for the
tack and routing the line to adjust the tack outside to the cockpit along the
starboard side (port side has furler control line).

2.  I spliced strops out of 3/16 spectra lashed to Harken Magic Air sheet
turning blocks.  The spectra strops and lashings to the turning blocks are nice
and soft compared to stainless steel shackle or clip hardware.  These strops
loop through the stern cleats to anchor the turning blocks. The blocks turn well
and align very well to the main winches with the "soft shackle" custom strops on
the cleats.  Hardware for this turning block application seems like it should be
soft, yet strong, hence the spectra strops.  Easy to stow with the sail and
deploy on the cleats when using the Asym.

3. I use a Lewmar block with a jam cleat mounted on the leading edge of the
stern rail for my roller furling control line.  It works great.

I have an article with photos that I have been working on for both our website
and Mainsheet on rigging and flying the Asym on our C320's.  Not quite finished
(about 75% there).  I was planning on submitting it this spring.
