[C320-list] Phantom leak

Over the years I have gone through the same issues with water in the cross brace and bilge in general. I have Hull #30 a 1994 model with the bilge/shallow grid.

After reading a number of postings on this list and much time with my head stuck in the bilge : ) , I have found a couple of sources for water.

1. The stuffing box. When underway it puts a lot more water in the boat than I realized. I went with GFO packing and that stopped that problem some have gone with the PSS system.

2. Hot Water heater: When it heats up when running the engine the tank will release hot water through the high pressure / temp over flow.

3. Water tanks: Mine leaked all the time when filled. I read on line here about a sealing compound used by plumbers called tuff stuff. I use it after I flush the tanks each spring stuff really work.

4. On the really early models the refrig drain and shower drain empty into the bilge. What a mess when ever we cleaned out the ice box or showered. I installed a Y valve and connected it to the head sink drain.

Hope this helps

I agree with Jon.
he factory supplied o-rings are not water tight and there has been
ast discussions on teflon tape, teflon paste, etc to improve the
ealing.
've added a second o-ring (actually a square ring).

Have you checked your water tanks' inspection ports?

Our 1995 C320, FanaSea #198, has an interesting leak. When we are in the
slip, there is no leak. When we go out for a sail and heal over we get
water into the cross brace tubes (but, not into the regular bilge). We have
closed all the through hull valves except the large one that discharges the
head directly into the lake (it is seized, have to wait until she is on the
hard to work it free as the whole holding tank area is below water line).
There does not seem to be a leak at the base of the goose neck up by the Y
valve. Glad for any ideas, or if anyone has ever had a similar experience.
 Cheers, Bronwen=
