When they commissioned the boat they mounted it in the aft lazerette to
starboard amidships. Since I was having all sorts of trouble with the damn
thing I went on the web site and and found that the prefered mounting site
was in the bilge right about where the galley opening is amidships so I
moved it there-without a whole lot of improvement in course keeping. When I
installed the X5 I moved it back to the aft lazerette location for ease of
mounting. As I said before, the new unit works very well.

Jim and John,
Where did you put the flux gate compass? Raymarine states that ideally the
label should be facing the bow.
