[C320-list] AC Install Advice

Ok, I'll chime in.

My 16000 BTU is installed in the aft Starboard locker with one 8 K condenser in the v-birth
Port locker and one 8 K condenser in the aft cabin Starboard locker along with the compressor.
Four inch outputs in the aft, head and v-birth and one 8 inch in the saloon. Return air is with
the condensers and they are about 10 inch.  These were already installed when I bought the
boat used in 2004. Cools/heats right nicely.

Ben

My AC unit (16000 BTU)  is mounted in the V Berth and it fits fine. The 16000 btu unit does fine here on the Chesapeake in the summer.    I have 3 vents 1 in the V berth  4x8 rectangle, 1 4in round on port side under the table and 1 4 in round in the aft cabin.   Problem I have is that the large 4x8 puts out a lot of air and you freeze in the v berth at night and it takes a long time to cool aft cabin.

If I did it over again I would keep main unit in V Berth but reconfigure vents. I did not put the unit in the port locker because my
boat already had the famous 320 port list and I did not want to make it worse.

Our boats are really close close in age I have hull #30 .

Bryan:
'm considering all the options you mention plus one other . . . under the
Berth aft of the water tank (have to sacrifice those two little drawers
hich we never use anyway). Runs are still long but not as long as
tarboard locker location. And you can hit head and aft cabin once you get
hrough main salon. Just a thought.

the best way to install AC on the 320.  We are going to install a 16000 BTU
unit next week. I have read several posts saying that the best place to
install the unit is in the “aft port locker” but I am unclear if this means
in the Lazarette (in front of the wheel) or the space under the aft port
seat (behind the wheel) where the Adler Barbour fridge compressor is
installed.  It would seem to me that an installation in the Lazarette would
make for a shorter and more direct routing of a cooling duct to a salon
vent near the bread box but the plumbing would be more difficult.  Space in
the Lazarette would also be sacrificed.  Installation under the aft port
seat would be easier from an air return and plumbing point of view but
would mean a longer and less direct cooling duct run to the salon.  This in
theory would mean a reduction in air velocity at the vent discharging into
the salon.  Maybe I am over thinking this.  I also read that the factory
installation is above the Diesel tank in the aft starboard locker (like in
the upgrade ac article posted by Jeff Hare on the C320 Association web
site).  This seems more difficult than the other two options.  If anyone
has some photos of their installation they would be greatly appreciated as
I am struggling to visualize how this going to go.

Thanks

Bryan
