I upgraded from my Autohelm wheel autopilot, to the X-5, 3 years ago and it has been sent back to the factory twice so far for repairs, the first time was right out of the box. I really enjoyed it for the one summer it worked. I have not had a chance to re install it yet, so I don't know if they fixed it yet the secound time. The last time the autopilot, after a short time, kept thinking that the rudder was hard over, when it was actual in the center. The first time it went back because it would not calibrate in any form and if you tryed to use it, you felt like you were trying to aviod an attack from a submarine.

have the same machine on my boat and I frankly don't like it. I've tried to
alibrate it a number of times with no improvement. A number of times the
achine has lost the rudder position indicator feed and the whole thing shuts
own; It works OK after a reboot. a friend has purchased the new model without
he rudder position sensor and it works great.

I was told both by a mechanic that I use and Raymarine that it did and that it
as unique to Catalinas because the helm is only 2 turns lock to lock. Honestly
do not know for sure. However I have not been able to complete the Autolearn
art of the Sea trials. The rudder turns very hard when the system starts the
uto learn and I have to abort the process.

I was under the impression that the X-5 with the course computer didn't need
the rudder sensor to keep a good course. What am I missing?

I recently installed the Raymarine SmartPiolt x-5 with a rudder sensor. I am
having problems with the seatrials. I have been told that Catalinas require
different default setting. I have called Raymarine twice and got different
information each time. Does anyone have these correct system default
settings for the 320? ThanksBecky DeVillierSynergy #201Apollo Beach, FL
