[C320-list] REPLACING LIFE LINE STANCHIONS

Hi David,

I recently removed the second from bow and the port gate stanchions, hope
these techniques apply to your locations and are helpful.

I had to take down above stove cabinetry for the port gate stanchion which
was all screws from underneath inside the cabinets-- fairly easy. I had
to remove a long piece of teak trim to get to the second from bow stanchion.
Removal of the cabinets and trim exposed a vertical fiberglass flange of the
inside sole liner of the boat, and the nuts and washers for the stanchions
were up under the flange, hard to reach. What made it easy was using a two
inch hole saw and removing a two inch circle of the flange directly adjacent
to the nut of each stanchion. Both of these created holes were structurally
unimportant and also esthetically unimportant as they will be covered up by
the cabinetry and trim removed once I reinstall the stanchions. The two
inch holes allow an open end wrench or long beak vise grip to grab the nuts.
On the stanchions removed, there were nuts and washers on the through deck
screws as well as on the 3/8" threaded stud directly under the stanchion.
The nut on the stanchion stud had to be removed completely .... the one inch
step the stanchion does from deck to stanchion mount did not allow simply
grabbing the nut and turning the stanchion.

Sorry, my "smart phone" never heard of a "crows" foot wrench.
