Thought it would be helpful to share this email I received from WEMA (the  
fuel gauge distributor);
 
 
Dear  Mr. Baird: 
Thank  you for your inquiry.  Before you determine it is the fuel sender 
and order  one and find out it’s possibly a gauge, I recommend you go to: 
_http://www.wemausa.com/_ (http://www.wemausa.com/)  and look at the  trouble 
shooting guide under the “Specs” tab.  WEMA USA charges a 20%  restocking fee 
if you need to return it due to ordering wrong.    
The  steps are easy and are a great deal helpful determining if it’s the 
sender,  gauge or wiring in between.  If it is the sender and it’s a WEMA you 
are  replacing you can get the part number you need off the wirecap on top 
of the  sender.   If you can’t see a part number, you will need to know how 
it  mounts, the length and the ohms as we don’t cross reference.  I look
