[C320-list] BoatUS Insurance

Okay, I don't feel so bad now. My premium is about 1,200 from BoatU.S in
Corpus Christi TX - definitely a hurricane zone. I have 74,000 worth of
agreed value hull replacement coverage. If you have hull replacement it
costs more. My sailing area is from Texas to Key West so that is quite bit
of potential exposure. I tried to narrow it down however BoatU.S said they
didn't offer a more coastal rate.

And now for the vanishing deductible I saw someone else had written about.
My original renewal notice was more like 1450. The deductible had
"automatically" decreased from 740 to 370 because of my claim free history.
When I asked them if I could save money by increasing my deductible they
said I could go back to the original 740 and decrease my premium by about
250. So they seemed to expect me to pay 250 more in insurance for 370 more
in coverage? I am not going to write what I am thinking at this point.

In some respects I would like to know what others claim experience has been.
This to me is as important as the premium. Getting a low premium and poor
claim service in my mind is no bargain and is the missing date in all of
these comparisons. Fortunately only a few of us have serious claims however
we all probably pay insurance.

Um, guys...$1,450 per year for our 1999 here in Key West (through
Geico/Seaworthy). Was damn glad to get that, it was about $1,000 less than
same coverage from Boat US.

$258 last year when I sold the boat. We live in tornado alley with large
hail storms, had four claims during 22 years. Premiums increased from $186
to $258 during that time. I carried the maximum deductible available. Boat
in water year around. Key is to shop around. Ken

package. 80K coverage on our 2003. $428.00. There are so many factors in
the rate calculations, maybe our short season here in Sturgeon Bay,
Wisconsin enters into it. I am smiling. The previous owner was actually a
few cents under $400.

coverage I found at the time), and just paid for 2013/14 @ $488. I was
expecting more of an increase, so I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe an East
vs West coast thing?
