Mike, the down side of drilling your own flushing holes is that it costs only time AND if you eventually need to do an update, you have saved the $$$ for a few years.

I cleaned/ flushed my bearings last season and the furling systems is working well.  I'm still on the hard with my mast down so a swap out of the drum would be a snap.  I do like the idea of flushing holes, so my question is, couldn't I pop a hole in the drum myself and save the replacement costs ?  Obviously I would remove the drum to keep any drill shavings out of the bearing race.  What do you think?
