Mike, I think I would contact schaefer and ask them.
The flip side is, it took me 20 minutes to change with the mast down and I know I have a brand new drum for short $. If you had difficulty furling in the past, what damage has been done to the bearings that could show up at the wrong time?

I do like the idea of flushing holes, so my question is, couldn't I pop a hole in the drum myself and save the replacement costs ? Obviously I would remove the drum to keep any drill shavings out of the bearing race. What do you think?

I did it by myself, but there are a couple of points where an extra pair of hands would be helpful while lining up the locking pin and supporting the foil. I simply put a rolling hitch on the foil with the halyard and used it to support the weight of the foil on the stay.
