[C320-list] Navionics App on non-cellular i-pad

Hi,
I have an iPad2 (just over two years old now - I think). In Australia, the top of the range iPad2 has GPS and a SIM card. If there is a SIM card in the iPad, it uses that to supplement the GPS data. I do not have a SIM card in mine, and the GPS works perfectly - no need for a GPS adapter.

The model without the SIM, did not have GPS and used the wireless signal to estimate the position of the iPad. Or you added a Bluetooth GPS adapter.

If there is any doubt, a quick check of the features on the Apple site shows that this configuration is the same on the current version. You need to buy the iPad with cellular capacity to get the GPS feature. But you do not need to use the cellular feature to use GPS.

But, why would you buy an iPad for $800, when you can get an Android tablet, with all the same features for $200?
Disclaimer - I have both, and now realize how much we are paying for the name "Apple". Eg, my new smart phone was $129, and is the same as a Samsung Galaxy 3...

There are Bad Elf GPS adapters for both types of iPad connections. I believe the new bluetooh version may also be out. You do not have to activate cellular service to have GPS on an iPad that has cellular capabilites.

Becky, did you use the GPS Bad Elf "Pro or 30 pin connector ?" I would like to use it on my IPad version 1 (which has Navionics). I have an IPad 4 version (3g), but would have to buy an up grade of the NAVIONICS ($55 I think). I am not sure if I have to have 3g turned on to have the GPS working on the IPad 4??? Anyone know?
thanks,

Generally the non cellular version only has GPS when you are in Wifi range. If you find yours does not work, Bad Elf makes a GPS adapter for the iPad.
Navionics will work with that adapter.
